Invasive Alien Species

Direct driver of biodiversity loss

Alien species that become invasive are considered to be main direct drivers of biodiversity loss across the globe. In addition, alien species have been estimated to cost our economies hundreds of billions of dollars each year.

"Supplementary Voluntary Guidance for Avoiding Unintentional Introductions of Invasive Alien Species Associated with Trade in Live Organisms" was adopted by the Conference of the Parties in 2018. See 14/11 annex I.
