Steppes and deserts have been neglected by conservation efforts, compared to other ecosystems. While they remain largely unfragmented, and lands warrant closer attention despite their low species density, as they provide a refuge for many migratory species. UNEP/CMS and a panel of experts will highlight the threats faced by Saiga antelope and other mammals, siberian cranes, waterbirds and raptors; will outline current activities, as well as avnues for future conservation.
