AFD is the Groupe Agence Française de Développement, a bi-lateral development finance institution established in 1941 that works on behalf of the French government. Its mission is to finance development according to France’s Overseas Development Assistance policies. AFD’s actions in favor of economic growth and preservation of the environment fall directly within the framework of the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals, which was set out in 2000 and seeks to reduce global poverty by half by the year 2015.

Africa Rice Center (WARDA) is an autonomous intergovernmental research association of African member states. It is also one of the 15 international agricultural research Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). WARDA’s mission is to contribute to poverty alleviation and food security in Africa, through research, development and partnership activities aimed at increasing the productivity and profitability of the rice sector in ways that ensure the sustainability of the farming environment.

ADB is an international development finance institution whose mission is to help its developing member countries reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of their people in the Asia and Pacific region.

Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) supports countries in Africa, Asia and Central America as well as in South-Eastern Europe in their sustainable social, economic and democratic development. The Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (MFA) plans the strategies and programmes and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) implements these together with public institutions, non-governmental organisations and enterprises.

BTC is the Belgian agency for development cooperation. On behalf of the Belgian government, BTC supports developing countries in their fight against poverty. Apart from this public service, BTC also executes contracts on behalf of other national and international organisations that work toward sustainable human development.

Bioversity International, Bioversity for short, is the operating name of the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) and the International Network for Improvement of Banana and Plantain (INIBAP). Bioversity is the world's largest international research organization dedicated solely to the conservation and use of agricultural biodiversity. It is non-profit and independently operated.

The Department for International Development (DFID) is the part of the UK government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty. We are led by a cabinet minister, one of the senior ministers in the government. This in itself is a sign of how determined is the UK government to tackle poverty around the world.

The Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts develops and implements national policy, programs and legislation to protect and conserve Australia's environment and heritage and to promote Australian arts and culture.

The GIZ is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. GIZ promotes complex reforms and change processes, often working under difficult conditions. Its corporate objective is to improve people’s living conditions on a sustainable basis.

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is a global partnership among 178 countries, international institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the private sector to address global environmental issues while supporting national sustainable development initiatives. It provides grants for projects related to six focal areas: biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized agency of the United Nations, was established as an international financial institution in 1977 as one of the major outcomes of the 1974 World Food Conference. Working with rural poor people, governments, donors, non-governmental organizations and many other partners, IFAD focuses on country-specific solutions, which can involve increasing rural poor peoples' access to financial services, markets, technology, land and other natural resources. IFAD's goal is to empower poor rural women and men in developing countries to achieve higher incomes and improved food security.

As an independent international research organisation, we are specialists in linking local to global. The organization advises governments, business and international development agencies and publish widely. Japan International Cooperation Agency is the independent administrative institution which implements Japan’s Official Development Assistance. The agency helps foster human resources, technology transfer and infrastructure development of partner countries through technical cooperation, loans and grants based on bilateral agreements. Its missions are to address the global agenda, reduce poverty through equitable growth, improve governance, and achieve human security.

Its mission is applicable both in Luxembourg and in the Luxembourg development cooperation partner countries on the international stage.

In countries receiving aid, the embassies play an important part in organising and carrying out development activities. They help formulate a general approach, which is further worked out in multiyear regional or country policy plans. And they provide a channel for the Dutch and host country governments to talk about the whole range of development issues.
