Developing a Business Case and Framework for Involving Business in Achieving the Targets
The recent business engagement decision coming from the Twelfth Conference of the Parties (COP 12) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) addressed a number of issues, including the contributions that business can make to the achievement of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and its associated Aichi Biodiversity Targets. The success of the Strategic Plan is contingent on a wide range of stakeholders being involved in its implementation. However, a majority of businesses have either no awareness, or at best a limited knowledge, of the Plan and the Targets. Furthermore, companies are often uncertain of how they can contribute to the successful implementation of the Plan.
This project, as mandated by
decision XII/10/3d, aims to create a business case, which will explain the Aichi Biodiversity Targets, and also provide guidelines for recommended actions that can be taken by business to help achieve them. The guidelines will build upon existing activities and materials, and will be developed through consultation with the
Global Partnership for Business and Biodiversity as well as a range of other relevant stakeholders.
Specific information on the Aichi Biodiversity Targets can be found
HERE.
In order to help create these guidelines, the Secretariat is aiming to have a series of case studies of different businesses that have undertaken actions related to one or more of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets (or one of the 5 Goals more generally). The information that is being requested is as follows:
- Case studies on companies that have undertaken activities that correlate to one or more of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. If the target itself has not been specified, please indicate which of the target(s) most closely align with the activities undertaken in the case study;
- Along with the case study, the Secretariat would appreciate receiving a few of the key points regarding the activity that could be applied to other businesses with respect to the target(s) being considered.
Please send this information to

Additional information will be provided on this page as the project develops.
