The Sri Lanka Business and Biodiversity (SL B&B) Platform was established in October 2012 as an initiative of the collaborative partnership between the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) and Dilmah Conservation. It is a nationally-owned member-driven initiative which acts as a knowledge and networking body for the private sector organizations in Sri Lanka which are committed to and are pursuing biodiversity and environmental conservation activities as a part of their core business and/or corporate social responsibility mandate.

In October 2015, the SL B&B was rebranded as Biodiversity Sri Lanka (BSL) following incorporation as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. BSL is currently backed by 31 Patron Members and has opened its doors to General Membership which together creates a membership of over 60 members. The Platform’s current membership represents the banking and finance, engineering, information and communications technology, tourism and hospitality, manufacturing and production, and plantation and food sectors of the country.

The Platform’s services to its members include the provision of knowledge resources, technical support in biodiversity conservation initiatives, matchmaking between investors and implementing agencies, organization of knowledge and networking events, and publicity through varied communications channels as well as enhancing civil partnerships and collaborative member initiatives. The Platform’s bi-monthly newsletter - ‘The New Standard’ - carries information and expert interviews on current themes of biodiversity conservation related issues.
