Western European countries use agri-environment schemes as an instrument to neutralize the negative effects of contemporary agriculture on biodiversity although not much is known about their effectiveness. Therefore, the ecological effects of the Duch agri-environment schemes were investigated and tests were done to find out whether the effectiveness of agri-environment schemes depends on landscape type or structure. Plants, birds, bees and hover flies were surveyed in three different types of landscape on 78 paired fields that either had agri-environment schemes or were managed conventionally. |
