The study descroibes the valuation of a mangrove forest in the south of Thailand. The mangroves provide a variety of goods and services to local villagers, including fish, wood and honey. They also serve as a breeding ground for fish that sustain an offshore fishing industry. These values were contrastedusing the change-in-productivity technique as well as replacement costs, with the alternative conversion to intensive aquaculturem, shrimp farms. |
