GLOBE CBD Parliamentarians Forum: Valuing Natural Capital to Mainstream Biodiversity, 25-26 October 2010, Nagoya, Japan
At the margins of the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Nagoya, Japan, a meeting on Parliamentarians and Biodiversity, organized by Global Legislators Organization (GLOBE) International, GLOBE Japan and the Secretariat of CBD, was held on 25-26 October 2010. By adopting the Bonn Declaration on Parliamentarians and Biodiversity at COP 9 in May 2008, parliamentarians encouraged GLOBE International and the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) to support world-wide parliamentary dialogue as well as the convening, in 2010, of a meeting of parliamentarians to mark the celebration of the International Year of Biodiversity and to review and further strategize on the contribution of parliamentarians to the implementation of the Convention, namely by engaging legislators during the implementation of the new Strategic Plan of the Convention and, in particular, during the revision of the national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs) over the period 2011-2012 and their implementation during 2011-2020. GLOBE International will further support the mainstreaming of biodiversity across the world’s parliaments by working closely with legislators from a number of countries to ensure that biodiversity is integrated into parliamentary decision making processes.
