The Republic of the Philippines has an extensive programme planned for the celebration of the International Day of Biological Diversity 2004. The Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources is leading the organization of these activities in partnership with other Philippine government agencies and NGOs.
20 May - Symposium on products derived from Biodiversity
21 to 23 May - Three-day Fair and Exhibit on Biodiversity and products derived from Biodiversity (8:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
The three-day Fair/exhibit will provide a venue for the general public to appreciate the value, uses and products derived from biodiversity. It will also inform the general public of the various efforts in the country to conserve our biodiversity. Further, it gives the business sector a venue to promote their products and provide the general public an opportunity to purchase these products at factory cost.
21 May - Biodiversity Acoustic Concert
The Filipinos’ penchant and prowess for music is world-renowned. Biodiversity Acoustic Concert will celebrate the intrinsic harmony and interconnectedness of life. Much like the way good music depends on the balance of notes, pitch and tone, biodiversity depends on a balanced ecosystem.
22 May - Environmental Arts Workshop for children (9:00 AM – 11:00 AM) - Exhibit from 11:00 AM - Guided tour at the Wildlife Rescue Center
The workshop will begin with a 10-minute lecture on Philippine biodiversity, focusing on the wildlife resources that appeal to children. The instructor will then teach the children the basics of drawing and painting while they begin their project. Participants will be provided with art materials. Video clips produced by the Knowledge Channel and Conservation International will also be shown while the children are painting/drawing. The children’s work will be exhibited throughout the Biodiversity Day celebration.
23 May - Thanksgiving Mass
Award of Plaque of Recognition to Collaborators and Biodiversity Conservation partners (immediately following the Mass)
