Neyra Sosa Gutiérrez advises that as a prelude to IBD, some
5000 posters celebrating the Theme of International Day for Biological Diversity were distributed to primary school children of Michoacan and a photography contest with the theme of Alimento, Agua y Salud para todos" (Food, Water and Health for all) was launched.
The Government of the State of Michoacan de Ocampo is celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity on 21 May with a conference organized jointly by the Secretaria de Unrbanismo y Medio Ambiente (SUMA), the Comision Nacional para el Uso y Conociemento de la Biodiversidad Commission (CONABIO) and the Instituto de Geografia de la UNAM. The subject matter of the presentations will include genetic resources and food security, problems of GMOs in the production of maize, and "Water and vulnerability in Mexico". Prizes for the Photography contest will be awarded at the conclusion of the conference.
