On the occassion of the International Day for Biological Diversity a Press Release was issued by the the German Minister for the Environment. Mr. Jürgen Trittin stressed, in particular, the need for the sustainable use of wood by using certification schemes.
In addition the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) together with the German initiative "Tree of the Year" launched an internet-based action "Letter to a Tree". Children aged from 6 to 18 were invited to write an electronic letter to a tree with their hopes, ideas, visions in relation to trees and forests and their importance to our world.
