Ethiopia
The Day was celebrated at the Menagesha-Subba Forest Conservation and Development Centre, some 45km west of the capital, Addis Ababa. The ceremony was attended by about 200 participants drawn from Development and Research Institutions, Universities and Colleges, NGOs, Embassies, House of People's Representatives and the mass media. The major activities included:
Presentations on various biodiversity topics by senior staff of the Institute of Biodiversity Conservation and Research (IBCR); A visit to the indigenous and man-made forests around the Centre; Publication of leaflets on the theme of this year's Day, namely, Forest Biodiversity; Display of posters depicting the theme, and the major undertakings of the IBCR to date. The event was also given fair coverage by the Ethiopian Television, Radio and Newspapers (both government and private).
