The earth is an interconnected natural system. These interconnections between habitats and ecosystems are of vital importance for their long-time survival and for the survival of the species inhabiting them.
The landscape's connnectivity however is broken at an increasing rate by man's acting. The Netherlands is a densely populated country with 16 million people living in a small area and over the last century the intensity of land use has strongly increased. In the Dutch Nature Conservation Policy it is attempted to restore an overall ecological network. |
