This page presents overall global progress in implementing the Programme of Work on Protected Areas. The map below shows the coverage of protected areas around the world as reported by the World Database on Protected Areas and accessed through the Millennium Development Goals Database. The bar chart below the map shows progress on major goals of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas, based on best available information from over 100 countries. Data sources included the 4th national reports, as well as a series of CBD regional workshops, in which countries provided detailed status reports on their implementation of the Programme of Work. Available national implementation reports are accessible below the bar chart through a link to individual country profiles highlighting implementation progress and success.
