BioFutura A.C. aims to generate knowledge, preserve and protect biodiversity, promote and administer justice to protect the non-human animal’s rights and social assistance to vulnerable groups. Our mission is to develop scientific research, focusing our efforts towards biodiversity conservation through sustainable actions, promoting justice, life and freedom to living in harmony with the nature. Our vision it is to be a leader in cutting-edge actions for nature and biodiversity, justiciability and non-humans animal’s rights.

CONABIO has developed comprehensive biodiversity information systems for Mexico. CONABIO and the NBII are collaborating in the planning and development of regional information networks, such as the North American Biodiversity Information Network (NABIN) and the Inter-American Biodiversity Information Network (IABIN). CONABIO also participates in the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) and the Biodiversity Information Table of the Canada/Mexico/U.S. Trilateral Committee.

Since 1992, the Mexican institution (CONABIO) has been dedicated to the promotion, coordination and support of activities related to knowledge, conservation and use of biodiversity for the benefit of society.

The NSEI Biodiversity Indicators are integrated in two different indicators sets: 1) Environmental Performance Indicators Set (with 49 indicators related with biodiversity) which uses the PSR Framework to describe the pressures, the state and the government actions to try to control damaging human activities, and 2) Key Indicators Set, which just contains three indicators related basically with the state and the governmental responses to threatened Mexican biodiversity.

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is an international organization created by Canada, Mexico and the United States under the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC). The CEC was established to address regional environmental concerns, help prevent potential trade and environmental conflicts, and to promote the effective enforcement of environmental law. The Agreement complements the environmental provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

As the main institution for graduate education and research in science and the humanities in Mexico, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) is pleased to take part in the world-wide celebrations of the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB). The interest that UNAM has in joining these events is based on a simple premise: Mexico occupies a place among the top megadiverse countries for an important number of taxonomic groups that currently inhabit the planet.

The Program of activities organized by UNAM for the IYB during 2010 will aim, in line with the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), to contribute in rising awareness in a large sector of the Mexican population about the importance of conservation and rational use of biological species, both locally and globally. The IYB-UNAM will also inform the public about the special conjunction of biological and cultural diversity that has defined important aspects of the history of Mexico.
