Biodiversity Monitoring Switzerland (BDM) is a long-term programme launched by Switzerland’s federal government to record the country’s biological diversity. As it is impossible to record biodiversity in its entirety, BDM makes do with 33 indicators. For financial reasons, BDM taps existing data sources to compute the majority of its indicators. However, the programme has also started to make its own surveys of select animal and plant species groups all over Switzerland. BDM has established two nationwide sampling networks.

In his latest publication, Givaudan scientist Roman Kaiser worked for more than ten years collecting and investigating the scent of over 400 endangered plants species worldwide, of which 267 are described in “Scent of the Vanishing Flora”. This compilation renders the book an important contribution to the UN International Year of Biodiversity through its understanding of biodiversity, research into natural scents and the reconstitution of endangered floral species.

The Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment (GMBA) is a cross-cutting network of DIVERSITAS with the task to explore and explain the great biological richness of the mountains of the world.
GMBA aims at:
• Providing input to policy makers and stakeholders for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in mountain regions
• Synthesizing often hidden and fragmented results of research on mountain biodiversity
• Shaping a global corporate identity for a scattered research community
• Increasing the visibility of mountain biodiversity issues
• Advocating studies on the human influence on natural and cultural landscapes in the mountains

The "Naturgruppe Salix" is a local, non-commercial organization of people, based in Bronschhofen, Switzerland, who are interested in nature and environment. It carries out one to three events monthly, such as field trips, hikes, lectures, nature conservation campaigns, convivial events and handicraft courses, according to the slogan "experiencing nature - with head, hands, and heart". By promoting interest, understanding and respect for nature in the public at large and especially in children, the organization wants to contribute to a sustainable development of our society. In 2010, the “Naturgruppe Salix” organizes a number of events focusing on different aspects of biodiversity.

The Convention's mission is "the conservation and wise use of all wetlands through local, regional and national actions and international cooperation, as a contribution towards achieving sustainable development throughout the world". The Convention uses a broad definition of the types of wetlands covered in its mission, including swamps and marshes, lakes and rivers, wet grasslands and peatlands, oases, estuaries, deltas and tidal flats, near-shore marine areas, mangroves and coral reefs, and human-made sites such as fish ponds, rice paddies, reservoirs, and salt pans.

The Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) is a non-profit association that promotes the "sourcing with respect" of ingredients that come from native biodiversity. Members commit to gradually ensuring that their sourcing practices promote the conservation of biodiversity, respect traditional knowledge, and assure the equitable sharing of benefits all along the supply chain. UEBT targets key economic sectors, one of the priorities of the strategy. Main targets: the cosmetics and health and beauty industry, and to a lesser extent the food industry.

Union for Ethical BioTrade is a non-profit association that promotes the 'Sourcing with Respect' of ingredients that come from native biodiversity. Members commit to gradually ensuring that their sourcing practices promote the conservation of biodiversity, respect traditional knowledge and assure the equitable sharing of benefits all along the supply chain. An important element of the work of the Union for Ethical BioTrade is to assist its members on policies and practices for ABS.

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is the "umbrella" organisation for the world zoo and aquarium community. Its mission is to provide leadership and support for zoos, aquariums, and partner organizations of the world in animal care and welfare, conservation of biodiversity, environmental education and global sustainability.
