By design, the island biodiversity programme of work contains goals and activities from other work programmes of the CBD that also apply to island biodiversity (in particular in small island developing States and States with islands). Therefore, in implementing the island biodiversity programme of work, Parties are contributing to other programmes of work and to cross-cutting issues. Similarly, all thematic programmes of work and cross-cutting issues in the CBD also apply to islands. Thus, the tools and guidelines related to biodiversity in general and to other programmes of work and cross-cutting issues are also relevant to the island biodiversity programme of work, in particular those pertaining to invasive alien species, Article 8(j), and biodiversity and tourism, as well as the ecosystem approach, sustainable use, access and benefit-sharing, impact assessment, and incentive measures.
