The amazing world of soil biodiversity. The European Commission organised an awareness raising event dedicated to "Soil and Biodiversity" that took place in Bonn during the Ninth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. The event was designed to communicate the crucial role played by soil biology in sustaining life on Earth, the goods and services it provides and the need to protect and more sustainably use soil biodiversity. The event included presentations from experts as well as day-long interactive exhibits for families and children. The event was held on 22 May 2008 at the conference venue, at the Forenzelt "Campus", Plaza der Vielfalt, in front of the Maritim Hotel.
