Cameroon celebrated the International Day for Biological Diversity at both the national and provincial levels. At the national level, the day’s activities were marked by a declaration made over national television and radio stations by H.E. Minister Hele Pierre, Minister of Environment and Nature Protection of Cameroon. To read declaration click here - French only. The resident representative of the UNDP also read the Address of the U.N. Secretary General. This event also provided a forum for the Minister to present to the public a wooden sculpture of Cameroon, which the Government of Cameroon will be sending as its donation to the SCBD’s Museum of Nature and Culture.

At the provincial level, roundtable discussions were held by various delegations of the Ministry indicating the linkages between climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as the need for concerted action to be taken by various stakeholders towards addressing the challenges of climate change.

The National Biodiversity Focal Point also had an interview with Radio Environment to highlight the efforts made by Cameroon to implement the Convention at the national level. It provided the opportunity for the National Focal Point to invite youth to register and participate in the African Children’s Summit on the Environment, scheduled in Yaounde, Cameroon from 30 July to 2 August 2007.
